Ionic Liquids

Ionic Liquids are an emerging, innovative range of versatile materials designed for a broad range of applications. Interchim is expanding an Ionic Liquid range that it has introduced, LIQ-IONIC™ - salts comprising of organic cations such as, imidazolium or pyridinium salts, complexed with inorganic or organic anions including Cl-, Br-, AlCl4, PF6- and BF4-, NO3-, (CF3SO2)2N-.

Ionic Liquids can also be used as solvents, catalysts, electrolytes and for a variety of other chemical procedures. They carry unique properties that can assist todays chemist.

  • Non Volatile (no VOC diffusion into the atmosphere)
  • Non Flammable (easier handling and storage)
  • Stable at high temperature - up to 300°C / 652°F (product dependant)
  • Hydrophilic or Hydrophobic
  • Good Conductors (electrolytes)
  • Broad electrochemical range
  • Very stable with water and oxygen

Utilising Ionic Liquids within certain chemical reactions have shown improved selectivity and yield, reducing secondary products whilst maximising raw materials usage. They display excellent solubility for both organic and inorganic compounds and are easily removed post synthesis.
